What an image watermark actually does
A watermark is a visible mark laid over a photo so that anyone who sees the image also sees who it belongs to. It does two jobs at once: it credits you when the picture is shared, and it makes the picture less useful to someone who wants to pass it off as their own. Photographers use it on client proofs, designers use it on drafts, marketplaces use it on listing photos, and anyone posting original work online uses it to keep their name attached.
This tool draws the mark on a canvas in your browser and hands you back the finished image. No upload, no queue, no account, and no watermark of ours added to the result.
Choosing a placement
Branding, not protection. A small mark in one corner credits you without covering the photo — but it can be cropped away in seconds. Use it for portfolio and social posts.
A single line running corner to corner. Harder to remove than a corner mark, still light enough to judge the photo through. Good for drafts sent to a client.
Repeated across the whole frame on staggered rows. This is what proofing services use, because there is no crop that removes it and painting it out is more work than licensing the photo.
Getting a watermark that stays readable
Contrast beats opacity
The usual mistake is a white watermark at very low opacity — it vanishes on a bright sky and turns to mush on a busy background. Leave Contrast outline on: it draws a thin edge in the opposite tone, dark behind a light mark and light behind a dark one, so the same settings stay legible across a mixed batch without tuning each photo.
Size proportionally, not in pixels
Size, margin and tile spacing here are percentages of the photo's shorter side, not fixed pixel values. That is why one setting looks the same on a 900 px phone shot and a 6000 px camera export — a tool that works in absolute pixels gives you a giant mark on one and an invisible one on the other.
Rotation and tiling together
Rotating a tiled mark makes it markedly harder to remove, because a cloning tool can no longer work along a straight edge. The spacing here is calculated from the mark's rotated footprint, so turning the angle up never causes the marks to overlap into an unreadable smear.
Batch watermarking

Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Your images are read with the browser's File API and drawn onto a canvas on your own device. Nothing is sent anywhere, which is why the tool keeps working if you disconnect after the page has loaded.
Does the output have a ToolAdda watermark on it?
No. The only mark on the exported image is the one you added. There is no branding, no corner logo and no trial stamp.
Can I watermark many photos at once?
Yes. Add as many images as you like and the same settings apply to each one. Download all packages every result into a single ZIP. Because sizing is proportional, the mark covers the same share of each photo even in a batch of mixed resolutions.
What image formats can I watermark?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF can be read, and you can export as PNG, JPG or WebP. An animated GIF is flattened — the watermark is applied to the first frame only.
Should I export as PNG or JPG?
PNG for transparency, text and sharp edges; JPG for photographs you are publishing where file size matters. WebP usually beats both at the same visual quality.
Why can I still see the watermark clearly on a bright photo?
The Outline option draws a thin edge in the opposite tone, so a white mark stays visible against a white sky. Turn it off for a softer, flatter mark.
What is the difference between tiled and diagonal placement?
Tiled repeats the mark across the whole image on a staggered grid and is the hardest to crop out. Diagonal draws a single line corner to corner — lighter, and easier to see the photo through.
Does a watermark stop someone stealing my photo?
It raises the effort, it does not make theft impossible. A corner mark can be cropped and a faint one can be painted out. A tiled, rotated, medium-opacity mark is far harder to remove cleanly. Treat it as a deterrent and an attribution.
Can I use my own logo or signature?
Yes. Switch to the Logo tab and upload a PNG, JPG or SVG. A transparent PNG works best. To prepare a signature first, try the Signature Resizer.
Does the watermark reduce my image quality?
The pixels under the mark are altered by design; the rest is redrawn at the original resolution with no resizing. PNG and lossless WebP add no compression loss at all. A JPG export re-encodes once, so keep quality at 90 or above.
Is there a file size or image resolution limit?
No imposed limit, but browsers cap canvas size at roughly 16 megapixels on the strictest ones. Above that the working canvas is scaled to stay inside the cap.
